The Organization
Founded in 1946, the Middle East Institute (MEI) is the oldest Washington-based institution dedicated solely to the study of the Middle East. Its founders, scholar George Camp Keiser and former US Secretary of State Christian Herter, laid out a simple mandate: “to increase knowledge of the Middle East among the citizens of the United States and to promote a better understanding between the people of these two areas.”

MEI has earned a reputation as an unbiased source of information and analysis on this critical region of the world, a reputation it has meticulously safeguarded since its creation. Today, MEI remains a respected, non-partisan voice in the field of Middle East studies.

The Program:
The Leadership Development Internship Program at the Middle East Institute is designed to provide students or recent graduates considering a career in a Middle East related field with hands-on experience in a Washington-based, nonprofit organization that focuses exclusively on the Middle East. Interns obtain guidance, experience, and exposure to the Washington policy and scholarly community while developing professional skills with interns from all over the world.

The Dream Curator Internship with help facilitate the customer journey through the brand exploration space, dialoguing and engaging with customers about their dreams and the path to fulfill their dreams. This internship assists with planning and execution of events held in the store and provides operational support to ensure store presentation meets objectives.

Internship of the Week: Rockefeller Archive Center

The Organization:

For more than thirty-five years the Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) has been dedicated to the collection, stewardship, and study of primary materials - documents, photographs, and audio-visual media - that reflect the history of the Rockefeller Family and the impact of their philanthropy. The archival holdings provide unique insights into worldwide developments in such fields as medicine, public health, science, the arts, international affairs, social welfare, education, and the social sciences.

The core of the RAC collections documents the programs and activities of various Rockefeller-related philanthropies including the Rockefeller University, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Population Council, and the Social Science Research Council. The Archive Center is also the repository for the records of other foundations and nonprofit organizations, including the Commonwealth Fund, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Near East Foundation, and the Ford Foundation, among dozens of others. Each year, over 300 scholars from around the world visit the RAC to conduct research in its archival collections.

The Position:
The Summer Program will provide participants the opportunity to work with archivists and to learn about archival practices and potential careers in that profession. The Program will include lectures and seminars, individual and collaborative projects, all designed to expose students to the full range of RAC activities. Field trips to other archival repositories and regional historical institutions are also planned.
